As the collection has grown, so has the need to store everything. Each evolution of storage has required some clever thinking to be effective.
This is the fourth generation of the collection - and is ultimately just an evolution on the third generation and first generation solutions. With so much space available for rings, I had no issues… but as I decided to play more with sounds and glans rings, I outstripped the ability of my storage solution to keep up. Plus, with my sounds and some weights still in the original storage solution, I figured it was time to move it all to its own home.
The expansion can be seen along the top of the picture: I mounted a pair of padfolios the same way the watch organizers were mounted, but to the top half of the case. On the inside of the padfolios, I attached corresponding rows of weatherseal strips. These strips are easily compressible and, when the folio is closed, they create enough pressure to ensure the sounds and glans rings stay exactly where they were placed. To keep the padfolios closed, I punched a few holes in both sides and fastened buttons that one could get from a fabric or hobby shop. This was an important step because it ensured that the padfolios stayed closed as the lid opened and closed… avoiding an endless fight with gravity.
To ensure the whole kit and kaboodle stays secure while stored, I cut some foam I had sitting around and placed it on top of the padfolios when they were closed. By doing this, when the case was closed, there was enough pressure created by the foam layers to keep all of the goodies on the bottom layer securely in place. The solution was so good, I was able to store the case on its side rather than laying down - and nothing managed to fall out of its home.
