ManAdorned Aluminum Hex Field

In case you can’t tell, I’ve come to enjoy custom designing my own adornments based on whatever design thoughts pop into mind! I’ve noticed lately that a lot of things out there now have a hex pattern on them. Everything from car grilles to enterprise server faceplates seem to be sporting a six-sided grid pattern rather than a boring square or diamond pattern. Well, why not give it a shot and see how it looks?

This design is identical to the net design I created a few weeks back with only a few modifications. First, the “field” is inset a little bit more so the raised borders on the face of the adornment that flank the hex design are a little more prominent. Secondly, I decided to experiment a little with the inner radius and have a slightly more shallow curve to see if it has a noticeable affect while wearing. Interestingly, a side effect occurred that I wasn’t anticipating (though it makes perfect sense). By increasing the inner radius, it made the “front” and “back” of the ring (in the picture, the top/bottom) appear to be quite a bit thicker than if the curve was more gradual. Because this is the inner edge, it’s impossible to tell the difference while the ring is on and the wearer is engorged.

Having specified 47.5mm (1.870") inner diameter for the design, the measured 1.871" of the adornment shows yet again that RapidDirect (the custom machine shop I use) is precise in their CNC practices. With this design being based on the net design, you may be asking. which one I like better. Well… as it turns out, I can’t quite decide! They’re both gorgeous and one-of-a-kind adornments so I’ll keep them both in the rotation!
