As I shared in a prior review, I’ve been smitten by a maker’s most exciting (and dangerous?) thing: new knowledge! Using my newfound knowledge of FreeCAD and where to have a custom ring manufactured, I made another custom creation to match the stainless steel version of my wedding band which itself was inspired by the custom design Andrew at Himeros jewelry created.
The design of this ring is identical to the previous stainless steel design but was adjusted to match the proportions of one of the most comfortable adornments in my collection: the Gear Essentials Plunge. Having another width adornment that matches my wedding band is a nice addition to the collection because the thicker bands can sometimes lead to a little too much bulge.
The design features a 1.8725" inner diameter, a perfectly radiused inner profile, and the thinner width at about 5/8". The 304 stainless steel puts the overall weight at about 1/4 lb. The result is a ring that wears very much like the Gear Essentials Torque in dimension and heft. I’m pleased with that given that Gear Essentials was known for their thoughtful designed fit. Like the previous expression, this ring features a polished finish on the natural stainless material. The darker gray color of the stainless is handsome enough that I chose not to opt for chrome plating.
Given that I’ve been enjoying this hobby, it should come as no surprise that I’m quite pleased with this result - and have already placed an order for another custom design (this time in aluminum - let’s see how it turns out!) as well as cranking out two more designs that I’d like to have manufactured. This may be the start of a beautiful (but expensive) new hobby… not that collecting adornments was cheap in the first place!
