Zebra Wood Ring

I’m always on the prowl for a new adornment and am especially fond of interesting or alternative materials. Of course, when I saw Broken Lance After Dark was offering adornments through their Etsy shop (among other adult toys), I had to pick one up.

The rings can be made from a number of different woods depending on your personal tastes. Because I wanted the grain of the wood to be on full display, I chose zebra wood - and the maker was willing to create the ring at a 1.875" inner diameter despite only listing 1.75" and 2" on the store front.

From a materials standpoint, the choice of wood was spot on. The dark and light contrast of the zebra wood’s grain is striking when given a modest stain. Unfortunately, the remaining design (shape) of the ring just wasn’t as great. This ring features a super-rounded outer profile which makes it look more like a napkin ring than an adornment. The inner profile is flat and lacks the all-important contour for maximum comfort. That said, the radius from the inner ring to the outer profile is not sharp, so pinching should be minimal for those that would like to wear all day.

The dimensions are a bit wonky. With a ring thickness of .4", and a massive width of .83", it is a particularly “fat” adornment. This may work for you if you grow quite a bit and fill out your rings, but for me, the height and width are both about double what you would typically expect in a ring. For a reference point, most of my largest rings (made of tungsten carbide) are only about .75" wide. It’s worth noting that chunky rings like this do tend to wear well throughout the day because the larger proportions limit pinching under clothes.

All in all - I have no regrets adding a handsome zebra wood adornment to my growing collection… but I just don’t think this one will get much play time given my many better options.
